Optimus project keyboard continue to wow.
One insanely cool gadget we've been watching for ever is the
Optimus keyboard from
Art Lebedev Studio. The project is a keyboard with keys that have LCD-esque displays, which you can configure for function and look. A
3-key version has been available for a while:
In their own words, " Every key of the
Optimus keyboard is a stand-alone display showing exactly what it is controlling at this very moment." Like all insanely cool gadgets, it is insanely expensive (
"We'll start taking pre-orders later this month for a 1,490 US$."). Even so, we can't help getting giddy about the implications down the road (like in 15 years). As a software loads your keyboard keys change to display their functionality for that program. Photo-editing, graphic design, audio studios and of course games would be so more intuitive. And that's just the obvious stuff. They are putting up posts that illustrate
some of the possibilities of functionality.
They'll be at
CeBIT by the way.
