The Most Wanted iPod Feature: Radio Tuner

Jacobs Media survey shows personal MP3 market will continue to grow and that iPod owners want their radio back.

This year's results of the Jacobs Media web poll, conducted yearly since 2005, has some interesting points.  Of note is what seems like to conflicting activities. On the one hand, more people are using their mp3 players in their cars:

Half (49%) of personal mp3 player owners say they can now connect them to the main vehicle they drive.

I'd assume that means they are not listening to the radio.  Yet the iPod owners see having radio broadcast where ever they go as the main feature that is lacking from the world's most famous mp3 player.

I think this is an insight into how we make purchasing decisions. Does "it does what I want" come second to "it's very popular"? Are we even reflecting on our needs when we buy technology/gadgets?
Fred Jacobs, President of Jacobs Media notes, "If Apple truly wishes to make the most versatile, user-friendly personal mp3 devices, an FM tuner should be standard equipment."
We'll keep an eye on what the yet-to-enter-rumor-mill 6th generation iPod brings to the table (if anything).
