Microsoft HD DVD update: A different ball game altogether?
The Elite was out, and HDMI gaming became much more exciting. Now MS has an ace up its sleeve with its latest update, for the legion of HD DVD-player owners.
For the initiated, here’s what is in store for you:
Added option to select from audio output formats via TOSLINK or HDMI:
- Digital Stereo (2 channel PCM)
- Dolby Digital 5.1
- DTS 5.1
- WMA Pro
- Added "Dynamic Range Control" toggle for digital audio output
- Improved HD DVD networking support
- Improved HD DVD title compatibility
- Improved performance with MPEG-4 AVC / H.264
- 1080p via HDMI is supported on the Xbox 360 Elite with HDCP compliant displays
- Improved parental controls
If any of you guys currently have an HD DVD add-on for your 360, let us know if you see any better experience with this latest update. In the format war, what calls the shots is compatibility and fitting as many bells and whistles into your product as you can.
