The Last Supper - Mac Mini is dead
Ladies and gentlemen, AppleInsider believes in all sincerity that the Mac mini is dead.
All fingers point to the main accused and who can never be pardoned for what has been done.
Apple conceived the Mac mini under pressure from shareholders who wanted a sub-$800 Mac, but never really saw much in the design itself. It's almost as if Mini stood in direct contrast to Apple's fundamentals from the get-go. The recent release of the Apple TV all but spells the end of significant updates to the lil' bugger.
The Mini was always the step child, tho’ similarly-discontinued products -- the Cube, the PowerBook 2400, and the 12-inch PowerBook G4 -- were all higher-end machines. The Mini was made to sit at the very bottom of Apple's product line. |

Early 2006 saw Apple TV begin to take shape inside Apple and the development of the mini began its slow, inevitable decline. With its next- generation- Mac Mini, Apple TV represents the essence of Apple's long-term digital media strategy.
Mini did have its share of selling points. Because of its petiteness and low cost, it was immediately nominated by seasoned techies as the perfect media server for the living room.
The Mac maker is constantly evaluating the market segments in which it wishes to participate and those which it does not. It's an application of love-hate methodology that inevitably produces its share of casualties.
Mac Mini we shall miss you …
