USB surround sound headphones from Turtle Beach

The AK-R8 marries the privacy of headphones with the full sound and positional accuracy of a multi-speaker surround sound system.

Turtle Beach, a pioneer in digital audio and multi-channel headphone technology, on Tuesday announced a PC gaming headphone gear-- the Ear Force AK-R8.

Turtle Beach has packed a couple of notable features into the AK-R8, including a whopping eight speakers, dual mics to monitor outside sounds, and a USB audio interface / sound card that includes a 10 band EQ and positioning abilities to (theoretically) get that big room system feel.

In addition to the headphones and the USB interface, the AK-R8 includes a USB cable, an optical S/PDIF adapter for connecting to home theater equipment, an installation CD and a quick-start manual. The AK-R8 is compatible with Windows 2000, XP or Vista and should be retailing for about $150.
