Akustica's HD digital microphone blurs out interference

Akustica's first HD digital output mic is a tiny device destined to be designed into laptops and broadband mobile devices.

Akustica has designed the first HD (High Definition) microphone that enables HD voice quality in laptop PCs and other broadband mobile devices. The company says this AKU2103 mic is the first to "guarantee compliance with the TIA-920 audio performance requirement for wideband transmission in applications such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)."

An important benefit of Akustica digital microphones is their immunity to RF (radio frequency) and EM (electromagnetic) interference, which allows placement in optimal acoustic locations regardless of proximity to displays, WiFi antenna or other sources of interference that would degrade or preclude use of conventional microphones.

However, the TIA-920 definition of "HD audio wideband" is a frequency response between 150Hz to 6800Hz that's not exactly high-fidelity.

Still it's a CMOS microphone --  a tiny integrated circuit -- that outputs a digital audio signal. Though it’s far-fetched to see this little button-size microphone in recording studios anytime soon, it might make a significant difference inside of a laptop or cellphone.
