SigmaTel announces STMP3700 microchip

SigmaTel STMP3700 System on Chip (SoC) provides customers the ability to design and develop high-performance digital multimedia players with audio, video, gaming, and wireless capabilities.

SigmaTel's chips are known for providing excellent sound quality, as well as efficient battery life and have been used in many mainstream players including the 1st Gen iPod Shuffle, Samsung YP-Z5, and the Sandisk Sansa Express.

Now SigmaTel has come out with its fifth generation System On Chip (SoC) known as the STMP3700, which it claims is the "the most integrated mixed-signal SoC for the PMP market, offering a higher level of processing power to enable superior video quality and extended battery life at the lowest overall system cost." It boasts of WiFi and Bluetooth support, FM tuner and recording, superior video and audio quality, and support for MPEG 4, H.264, WMV, MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC, and Ogg Vorbis file formats.












In addition to this great hardware support, SigmaTel is also providing aid on the software side. It has made an SDK (software development kit) that allows companies to make a custom interface on their respective players. It will include album art support, transparent menus, multiple playlists/instant playlist creation, graphical EQ's, and more.
