It’s tough reaching the top and tougher staying there for long. Sony must have realized this universal truth when Nintendo cornered the market share from right under its nose to dislodge its PlayStation from a decade-old dominance in the game industry.
Nintendo Co. Ltd. zipped past Sony Corp. in market value on Monday and became one of Japan's top 10 issues for the first time, joining the ranks of Toyota Motor Corp., Honda Motor Co. Ltd. and Canon Inc. on the list of the 10 most valuable Japanese companies.
What did the trick for Nintendo was its slew of innovative and easy-to-use game software like ‘Brain Age’ and ‘Nintendogs’ for its hardware in recent years.
Now that Sony’s wiser from the experience, we’ll have to wait and see whether Sony will revamp its Playstation strategy and regain lost ground.
