Laser TVs also set to enter the premium segment
High-definition television sets grow ever more sophisticated with newer technologies.
The search for the perfect display technology will probably never end. Good for us videophiles, a better and a varied choice! But come what may, cathode ray tubes are going to be around for some more years. Anyway, that’s beside the point.
An interesting development is, high-definition television sets are acquiring newer technologies, diagonally pushing up the screen displays without sacrificing picture quality. LCDs and plasmas have been around for a while and before they trickled in, LEDs entered the scene, only to have another contender: Laser Television. “The lasers will be able to give more than 90 percent of the color range that our eyes can see,” said Jean-Michel Pelaprat, chief executive of Novalux, based in Sunnyvale, Calif.

For the uninitiated, the color gamut from plasma displays and LCD’s reaches only 40 percent and 35 percent respectively. So you can imagine what a feast is in store for the eyes.
Laser TVs are not yet on the commercial market, but several manufacturers have demonstrated them at trade shows and soon it will spawn a new category for the premium end of the market. If affordability is what you are looking at, perhaps the wait is much longer.
