A cellphone concept sans the frills

The cellphone design by Jacob Palmborg is for playing a bit of music and storing a list of your contacts, nothing more.

Down the line, cellphones got jam-packed with so many features that their basic premise as a communication device started getting lost in a host of other applications.

As technical glitzes made those devices only more frustrating, one starts wishing for the good old days when gadgets were oh-so-basic and utilitarian. So, in the days of feature-laden iPhones and Blackberrys, there’s something appealing about a device designed with simplicity in mind. As of now though, it’s just a concept.

Freelance designer Jacob Palmborg has come up with a cellphone design that plays a bit of music and stores a list of your contacts, nothing more. An attractive OLED touchscreen interface and a fingerprint ID screen on the back are all it boasts. The bent shape has been designed to protect the screen and key-surface while lying face down.

Here's hoping someone picks it up for production. Surely there are millions out there who want just a functional mobile phone and nothing else.
