Dell support moving in the right direction.
Dell announced they'll be rolling out a new tool called the Dell Support Center, a web-based solution (Gee, I wonder if there are any other web-based, technical support sites out there?). Using customer feedback as the starting point for the design, Dell hopes to improve their customers' support experience.
One feature that stood out is that when the program is launched and you arrive at the homepage, you see the model number for your system along with its service tag, express service code and warranty expiration. That's the kind of hard information users need. Also the site makes it easy to access your machines hardware configuration. While that information is available in Windows, it's difficult to find and hard to comprehend.
Cheers to Dell for taking this step. We know they have a hard road to travel to un-tarnish their customer support reputation, but at least they're trying to improve.
