A wake-up call for the video gaming industry?

Most video games are "boring" or too complicated and game makers need to do more to appeal to casual players, says the head of the world's largest video game publisher, Electronic Arts Inc.

Even as the $30 billion video game industry — it now rivals the  movie and music businesses — is preparing for its annual Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 in Santa Monica, California, comes the wake-up call.

John Riccitiello, head of the world’s largest video game publisher Electronic Arts Inc,  feels that game makers are boringly repetitive and need to do more to appeal to casual players who find most games complicated.  “For the most part, the industry has been rinse-and-repeat,” he was quoted as saying. “There’s been lots of product that looked like last year’s product, that looked a lot like the year before.”

Now that the message to shed complacency is clear, and from someone who matters, can we hope to have creating juices overflowing in the gaming industry? And expect an array of exciting titles?
