Helmet cameras to book England's crooks

Police officers are to be equipped with head cameras under the government's latest crime fighting initiative in England.

When big brother's watching, and with his third eye, would anyone dare get away with mischief? No, if you go by the experience of Plymouth police officers.  For a year, 300 officials were trained to use head cameras during day and night patrols.  The new technology increased their detection of violent crime by 40 per cent and arrests went up by 85 per cent.

The trials also resulted in  "less paperwork for the police" as footage provided clear evidence that made it difficult for offenders to deny their involvement. Encouraged by the results, the Home Office is to provide £3m ($6.1 million) to equip police forces across the country with head camera technology.

Notably, a set of guidelines will recommend that cops inform the culprits that they are indeed being taped!
