Hands-free mouse concept for the disabled

Lomak (Light Operated Mouse and Keyboard) is for those who have difficulty with traditional input devices and allows controlling a computer through the use of a light pointer.

It was an idea that combined both ingenuity and thoughtfulness for the disabled. And so, no surprise that it won the gold medal at the 2007 IDEA design awards. The Lomak (Light Operated Mouse and Keyboard) is just the right device for those who are unable to use a regular mouse and keyboard due to physical limitations.

You can control the entire computer with the use of a light pointer. A pointer that’s either controlled with a hand or mounted on someone’s head emits a beam of light, which can be directed at a pad holding rotary-style letters and numbers.

As the light passes over each button, the corresponding letter appears on screen without the need for clicking or nodding or any special gestures. The Lomak does not need special software or calibration and can be used with any application. What waits to be seen is how soon the design concept becomes a reality.
