PlayStation 2 pips others to be the most-played game platform
Nielsen's new report called GamePlay Metrics says that PlayStation 2 trumped all other platforms as the most-played game console.
| Golden oldies never lose their appeal. Nielsen’s new report called GamePlay Metrics proves that in its findings, which says the PlayStation 2 trumped all other platforms as the most-played game console. Forty-two percent of console playing in June was on the last generation’s Sony PlayStation 2. The second most-played console was another oldie, the original Xbox, with 17 percent of total minutes. At third position stood the Xbox 360 with less than half the time of its predecessor. The others, in order, were the GameCube, the Wii, and the PlayStation 3. |

The classic World of Warcraft (WoW), from Blizzard Entertainment, was the top game for PCs, the report said, played more than four times as often as other computer games.
Nielsen Vice-President Jeff Herrmann said the report offered “the first glimpse of metered in-home video game player data with the most accurate, objective, and quantifiable metric available.” The data was collected from more than 12,000 households, which, together, have about 33,000 people.
GamePlay Metrics report will ultimately be able to establish a metric for the selling of ads in PC and console video games.
