World's smallest single chip camera unveiled

TDC is introducing the smallest-ever single-chip CMOS camera to the UK market.

Technology can be both a boon and a bane. Take cameras for instance. Advancements in digital technology made them not only feature-rich, but also very affordable. Digital cameras have been most effective in surveillance, reducing crime and thwarting terrorist plans. But at the same time, they have been infringing on people's privacy and are blatantly misused by voyeurs.

Now comes TDC’s OV6920 CameraChip which is claimed to be the world’s smallest CMOS chip at just 1.4 mm. The attached camera setup can be just 3.2mm in total size and can work on a low 3.3 v DC power supply. Despite the small format, its proprietary architecture OmniPixel2 ensures the highest image quality. The practical applications are limitless from medical pills to toys and webcams to camcorders. But think of the havoc such an obscure device can wreak when it gets to the wrong hands…
