World's smallest camcorder from Canon

Canon's camcorder is reportedly the world's smallest, weighing 19.92 ounces with the battery inside.

We have come a long way from the days of VHS when video recording meant lifting a bulky equipment on shoulders and moving around through tangled wires. Now smaller camcorders allow hard disk recording giving hours of better quality images without being hungry for battery power.

Canon took the compact technology a step further by unveiling its HG10, the company’s first high-definition hard drive camcorder and the world’s smallest, weighing only 19.92 ounces with the battery inside.

The camcorder has a 40 GB hard disk inside which gives 5.5 hours of AVCHD recording at its highest quality setting (Canon’s AVCHD codec scheme varies compression rates of scenes optimally). The  Canon HG10 camcorder also features “super range optical image stabilization ” that detects motion and sends a signal to a processor that controls the lens-shifting elements for better images.

The product will be priced at $1299 and will ship in early October in the United States, according to Canon.
