Universal remote controls can be customized with graphics

The latest in Universal Remote Control's line of remote controls is the MX-980 that has an LCD that supports custom images to represent devices.

When everything else is evolving in the world of electronics, should the humble remote be left behind? From just being an additional frill, they have come to wield immense power over electronic devices ever since they became more feature-laden and interactive.

So,  Universal Remote Control, has given a makeover to the remote control by adding a LCD screen that supports custom images.

The MX-980 Remote Control offers a 320x240 pixel window to any graphic an installer (manufacturer of devices) would like to provide, including BMP, JPEG, PNG, GIF and animated GIF files, all of which can be assigned to any of eight adjacent activity buttons.

It's a high-end remote costing $599, but once the concept catches up, such remote controls are going to be truly ‘universal’.
