Is this correct information: battery is used only when not plugged in an outlet. If this is true, then I don't have to buy a new battery so long as I don't use it outside of the house or its always plugged in an outlet. In the long run, will this not damage my computer in any way? do I have to take out the battery off the computer when it no longer charges? Configuration: HP G60 125NR, 16 cell lithium battery, windows vista History: battery needs to be replace already, if computer will get damage with a battery no longer working or should I take it off ? |

you could even use the computer with the battery out of it. making sure it's plugged in.
but that is correct the battery is not being used when on AC power. it will not damage your computer to leave it in there, it just adds weight. if you're always going to just use it plugged it i would remove it (if it's not good anyways) and just continue to use the computer without it. you dont need a battery for your portable pc to run.
Thank you so much guru Simon. you always reply to my problems. one thing I noticed, that when the battery is not on and when I need to turn off the computer, it will not turn off properly...but with the battery on (it's still charging anyways, though the following day everything is drained out), it will close the way its supposed to be. THIS IDEA IS GREAT....NEVER KNEW IT...I COULD HAVE SAVED MY BATTERY = $123.99. but i'm already late, coz its not functioning properly anymore.... I hope other people will come to learn this before their battery runs out. Thank you so much again guru Simon.

I wouldn't. If there's even a momentary interruption in power, like a cable bumped or a brownout, you lose everything, and laptop cables aren't nearly as secure as desktop power. The battery is cheap insurance even if you leave it always plugged in, unless it's actually becoming very hot to the touch, which would indicate a danger of explosion.
It's up to you though, the battery does add 2-3 pounds of extra weight and a little extra heat that you can get rid of.
BTW, on the last question, you asked about running in high-performance mode, that's a very bad idea. You don't actually get any higher performance than if you run on battery mode on modern machines, that name is meant for the old days (5-7 years ago) when pentium 4 and celeron were the norm in laptops. Today, on balanced mode, the processor will switch instantly from power-saving to high-performance and back when you need it, in balanced mode, and the system will be cooler, quieter, and let battery last longer.

If I take my battery out, will the dirt not get easily into the computer and create another problem? I would like to buy a new battery but maybe not now since my budget is really tight. Im just happy to learn that I can still use my computer without the battery on, except of course during power failure. Thanks again guru foxyshadis. Happy to hear from you!!!

extended warranties dont apply to batteries since they only last about a year and a bit more if regularly used.
