did you try using someone else's charger? Maybe its the charger? How old is the device is it under warranty or did you purchase extended warranty?

Use USB cable. Tried new cable which works for itouch. Not a connection issue. Warranty (or extended) - hah! IPod is 3 years old. get really p'd off when technology requires a warranty. It should be of good enough quality to work for years or else I never buy it again.
