Sometimes it may appear that you are connected to our network, when you have not actually established a stable network connection. There are several ways to determine whether or not your computer and DSL modem are connected. Here are a few suggestions:

Check AT&T DSL Connection Manager
If you are running AT&T DSL Connection Manager, make sure you have three green boxes in Connection Manager’s main window. If any of the three indicators in the main window are red, click the “Repair Center” button to diagnose your connection problem.

Check your current IP address
If you are not running AT&T DSL Connection Manager, you should check your current IP address to verify that it is a valid, routable IP address.

For Windows XP:

  1. Click the Start button at the lower-left of your computer's desktop.
  2. Click on Run...; the Run window will open.
  3. Type cmd in the Open: field, then click OK.
  4. Enter ipconfig at the C: prompt.
  5. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.
  6. Check the IP address listed. Any IP address that starts with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx, 10.xxx.xxx.xxx, or 192.168.xxx.xxx indicates that you are NOT connected.
  7. If you are not connected, check your DSL equipment to make sure that it is set up and working properly, and then try to reconnect.

Run AT&T Self Support Tool (SST)
SST is a tool that will analyze and troubleshoot your connection issues to determine solutions.  If you do not have SST visit Download the AT&T Self Support Tool to download SST.  If you have SST installed, Click-To-Fix your connectivity issues.

If the Connectivity troubleshooting flow does not launch automatically, click the Connectivity link from the navigation menu on the left side.  After the Connectivity flow completes, click the Computer Checkup link and for more assistance.
