How do I Install an Old-Style Wall-Mount DSL Filter for BellSouth
Mount the filter on the telephone jack and mount the telephone on the filter.
An old-style wall-mount filter is shown below:
The filter is labeled Excelsus Z-Blocker and has a locking panel below the faceplate. There is a filtered jack on the front and an unfiltered ADSL jack on the bottom.
To filter a telephone or other device with an old-style wall-mount filter, do the following:
- When there is a phone on the wall jack, do the following:
- When there is a phone on the wall-mount jack that uses a locking lever, pull the lever out to unlock the phone from the jack.
- NOTE: Locking levers are usually located on the right side of the phone, at the base.
- Push the phone up and gently pull it away from the wall.
- When the phone is connected to the jack using a short telephone cord, disconnect the cord from the jack.
- When there is a phone on the wall-mount jack that uses a locking lever, pull the lever out to unlock the phone from the jack.
- Locate the PRESS TO LOCK tab on the filter. Gently pull the tab outward as far as it will go.
- Place the filter over the wall jack. Line up the filter's plug and mounting slots with the jack's port and mounting pegs.
- NOTE: The plug on the back of the filter can slide up and down to help with alignment.
- Push the filter into place.
- Push the PRESS TO LOCK tab inward.
- When reconnecting a phone to the wall jack, do the following:
- When the phone must be connected to the jack using a short telephone cord, connect the cord to the unfiltered jack on the front of the filter.
- Place the phone over the filter. Line up the phone's plug and mounting slots with the filter's port and mounting pegs.
- Push the phone inward and down until it is secure.
- When the phone uses a locking lever, push the lever inward to lock the phone to the jack.
- NOTE: Locking levers are usually located on the right side of the phone, at the base.
- When connecting an ADSL modem to the same jack as a telephone or other device, plug the modem into the ADSL phone jack on the bottom of the filter.
