I have an iPod battery problem

It is probably due to the way you use the iPod. Here's some advice to conserve battery life.

Your battery is probably not charged.  Connect your iPod to your computer or wall charger for at least 4 hours.

Of course nothing is as easy as that.  Let's review some facts:

  • From a full charge, an iPod can be used anywhere from 8 to 20 hours. Whoa! that's a big difference. Here are some things to take into account.
How long an iPod last between charges depends on ...
    • The size of the files.  If your songs are in a large, high definition format, it'll take more juice to play them.
    • The type of files.  Videos take more juice to run than songs.
    • Backlight setting.  That light will drain the battery.  If it's on a lot, the battery will drain quicker.
    • Leaving it on.  When left on, and iPod will continue to play until the battery is drained.
    • The equalizer.  If you turn this off, the iPod won't drain the battery as quickly.
While Apple claims the life of the battery is 18 months, it really depends on your usage habits.  If you use your iPod daily, the battery may not go that long. But someone who uses their iPod infrequently may go more than 2 years before needing a new battery.
