Set the iPod to Diagnostic Mode

Well, there isn't really much else to do.  If you iPod is under warranty, use it (bring/send it in for service).

You can put the iPod into diagnostic mode. This won't really fix your iPod, but it will give you some more information.

The diagnostic mode is used by Apple technicians to find out where a problem is on the iPod.  It is not meant for use by the average user (and it won't be much help either).

  • Hold the MENU and SELECT buttons until the Apple logo shows up.
  • Switch to holding the |<< (back) and SELECT buttons.
  • Use the Back (|<<) and Forward (>>|) buttons to navigate the diagnostic menu (the scroll wheel doesn't work in this mode).
By running these tests, you'll know if you have a hardware problem or not.
