Force iPod to Disk Mode

Follow these steps to put the iPod onto Disk Mode:

  • Ensure your iPod has a charge: plug your iPod into your computer or wall charger for a while (20 minutes should do).

  • Disconnect the iPod from the computer.
    1. Turn the Hold switch on, then back to off.

    2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears.
    3. Immediately switch your fingers to press and hold the Select and Play/Pause buttons until "Disk Mode" appears at the top.

I reset my ipod (ver. 3.1.1) using the iTunes resetter to factory default. Now it tells me to connect to external power source (and shows picture of an outlet and cord) to finish. What does this mean, and how do I fix this? I don't have the walljack outlet plug for my iPod.
