What is the "iPod Service" I see under Computer Management?

The iPod Service is a program that kinda hangs out in the background waiting for an iPod to be connected and then tells the computer what to do. You shouldn't mess with it unless your computer isn't recognizing the iPod (even then, there are other things to check first).

But if you think you know what your doing, here's how to set you iPod Service:
  • Disconnect your iPod and quit iTunes.
  • From the desktop, right click over My Computer and click Manage.
  • In the left side panel, double click Services and Applications, then double click Services (right underneath)
  • Double click iPod Service in the right hand panel.
  • Click the Stop button under the General tab and leave the iPod Service Properties window open
  • Connect your iPod and wait until you see it in My Computer (be patient, it may take awhile).
  • Click the Start button in the iPod Service Properties window.
  • Open iTunes.
The iPod should now show up in the Source list of iTunes.
