My iPod is not mounting/not showing in My Computer/not recognized by iTunes.

iTunes can't "see" your iPod when connected or the iPod doesn`t show up under My Computer

Okay, don't freak out.  What we'll do is systematically check the different points where a problem could be hiding, correct it or eliminate it, and then you can return to your normal iPodding. This could be no big deal so let's check the small stuff first, then we'll test the software.

Before we go ahead and troubleshoot your problem, lets quickly run through this checklist, just to make sure it is not something obvious:

  • Check your connections (USB fully plugged in? iPod connected?).
  • Plug the iPod directly into the computer (don't use a USB hub).
  • Try a different USB port.
  • Use a different cable (ask a friend if you can borrow their USB cable).
  • Remove all the other USB connections (sometimes other USB devices can cause a conflict).
  • Try this:
    • Unplug your iPod
    • Close all programs that are currently running.
    • Plug in your iPod.
    • Open iTunes.
  • Try rebooting the computer

If any of these steps got your iPod to show up in iTunes, make note of what was causing the problem, then continue to enjoy your iPodding lifestyle.

Did any of the above steps fix your problem?
