Verifying Outlook Express connection settings.

Follow the procedure given in this article to verify the connection settings in Outlook Express.

This article will tell you how to verify that Outlook Express is configured properly for your dial-up connection to your Internet Service Provider.
Some of the probable issues that you experience with your new internet connection could be as follows.

  1. Outlook Express disconnects after sending and/or receiving e-mail.
  2. Outlook Express prompts you to dial another connection while a connection is currently established with your ISP.
  3. Outlook Express not dialing your connection prior to sending and/or receiving e-mail.
  • Open Outlook Express.

  • Click on Tools > Accounts.

  • The Internet Accounts will show up. Click on the mail tab and you will see  details of your accounts.

  • Select your Internet Account and click on Properties.

    Note:
If there is more than one account set up, double click on the topmost account. You have to follow the same steps from this point on for each of your accounts.

  • The Mail Properties window will be displayed. Verify that the entries given are correct.

  • Click on the Connection tab.

  • Verify that Always connect to this account using: button is checked.

  • Verify that Dial-up Connection (this is the connection to your ISP) is selected.

  • Click OK.

  • You will again reach the Internet Accounts window.

  • Click Close.

  • You will reach the Outlook Express window again.

  • Click on Tools > Options.

  • Click on the Connection tab.

  • Check the button Ask before switching dial-up connections.

  • Ensure that Hang up after sending and receiving is not checked.

  • Click on Change.

  • Remove all connections except Dial-up Connection.

  • Select Always dial my default connection option.

  • Click once on Dial-up Connection icon.

  • Click on Set Default button.

  • Click on Apply > OK.

  • At this point you will reach the Options window again.

  • Click OK.

  • From this point, Outlook Express should operate without problems.
