My iPod tells me to go to www.apple.com/support/ipod when I turn it on. Why?

This is a prompt to either reset or restore you iPod.

The message "go to www.apple.com/support/ipod" usually is preceded by, or followed by, the Apple logo or the sad face icon. It directs you to the Apple support site because either the iPod software is corrupted or their is a hardware problem.  You should try to reset the iPod (try several times). If that doesn't right the iPod, then try to restore it (which will erase the entire iPod and reload the software.

Follow the links above and see if that gets your iPod working. You might want to see if you can update the iPod/iTunes software or try this troubleshooting guide. If it is really a hardware problem then your iPod needs to be taken in for service.
