iTunes is giving me Error 1415 (1417, 1418, or 1428)

iTunes throws this dialog box when restoring or updating an iPod

So you were updating or restoring your iPod and got "An unknown error has occurred"? This problem was addressed in the update to iTunes 7.0.2.

You need to update your version of iTunes (yes, again). In iTunes, go to Help > Check for Updates (or click the link above to download the full version).

After you have 7.0.2, try updating/restoring you iPod again.  If you still get the error message, make sure your iPod is plugged directly to your computer (no USB hub) and disconnect other USB devices. They may be confusing iTunes.
