iTunes won't open and says there's a problem with my audio setup.

Error message: "iTunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration" or "-200 error".

QuickTime may need to be reinstalled. Follow the steps below to uninstall QuickTime and then download and install QuickTime using the QuickTime standalone Installer.

  • Click Start > Control Panel

  • Select Add or Remove Programs.

  • Select QuickTime.

  • Click the Remove button.
Now download QuickTime http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html. Select the one that does not include iTunes.

Run the installer and
follow the instructions to install QuickTime. When done, reopen iTunes and see if it runs.

Actually, after upgrading to v7.0 from v6.0, if you first load quicktime and let it configure, then itunes will load without a problem :)

    Worked for me

Try this! Start Menu>Run>type in (services.msc)>scroll down to Windows Audio and right click on it>select properties. if start up type isn't on automatic switch it so it is. Also, if the service status button is on stop switch it to start. Hope this works for you!
