Setting up free Yahoo Mail account to Outlook.

How to configure Yahoo Mail account with Outlook

Learn how to configure your free Yahoo email account to Outlook by reading this article.

Yahoo! blocked the viewing of their free email accounts through email clients (Outlook/Outlook Express/Mozilla etc) in April 2002. It offers that function only to subscribers who pay for Yahoo! Mail Plus. If you have the paid, Mail Plus subscription, click here for setup instructions.

For those with the free email account, here's a way to use Outlook to view and reply your emails through Yahoo! Mail. It is very simple!

First, you need to download and install a software called YPOPs!. This free software provides easy to use and secure access to your Yahoo! Mail account in any email client.  Click here to download and setup YPOPs!.

After you are done with setting up YPOPs!,
open Outlook.

  1. Click on Tools > E-mail Accounts.

  2. In the Email Accounts window, select the button Add a new e-mail account.
  3. Click Next.

  4. Select POP3 and click Next.
    1. User Information:
      • Type your name (This name would show up to others when they receive your email)
      • E-mail address should be your yahoo email address.  Type your existing Yahoo ID including "@yahoo.com"
    2. Logon Information:
      • Type just the the yahoo ID (for ex:- if your yahoo ID is "example@yahoo.com", you need to type "example" as your user ID)
      • Password is your Yahoo! Mail password. (Ensure you are entering the correct password)
    3. Server Information:
      • Type "localhost" for both Incoming (POP3) and Outgoing mail (SMTP) servers.
  5. Click More Settings.

  6. Click on Outgoing Server tab, check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.

Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Click Finish.
You should now be able to access your free Yahoo! Mail account through Outlook.

YPOPs is a very popular, secure and Opensource Technology that industry leaders use. Also, its easy and is the only tool that works with yahoo mail accounts. I appreciate your concern and at the same time would like to say that if there is any password stealing or any other such activity then yahoo folks would have got several complaints and they will be able to easily nail down the issue by saying not use YPOPs. Well so far I have not see any news released by Yahoo. So I think you can go ahead and use it.

          Hope this helps!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! This is the only site I've found that tells you to type "localhost" in the both of the incoming and outgoing server information box. My frustrations are now laid to rest.:P Thanks again, you've been a great help.

I am having the same problem these other people are having. I have installed this thing over and over, and input my password till I have about worn it out, but I cannot get this thing to work. There should be a warning on Microsoft Outlook telling people that it does not work with Yahoo!!!!!!

My dropdown windows do not look like this in Vista. I have to go to manual setup to get these choices, and visit 2-3 windows to find all the options. It has been a nightmare.
