In order to setup your Xbox 360, it is important that the position and the connections are correct.

  4. Connecting a Wired Controller
  5. Connecting a Wireless Controller
  6. Connecting to Digital Audio

1. Positioning your console:

Your Xbox 360 console is so designed that it has to be placed either in horizontal or vertical position. Before proceeding, take the following precautions:

  • Ensure you place the console on a flat surface.
  • The place you choose for your console should be properly ventilated and free from dust and heat.
  • If you have positioned your console vertically, ensure that it doesn't fall. (It can damage your console)
  • Do not place your console on a couch or bed - that might block the ventilation openings on your console.
  • Make sure that all the cables that are connected to your console are intact, protected and well hidden. Anyone tripping over these can damage the wires and cables.

6. Connecting to Digital Audio (applicable if you have Toslink optical digital audio input):

If you have an advanced television, an amplifier or a receiver that has a Toslink optical digital audio input, you can connect that to your XBOX 360 console to get a better sound quality.

Here's how to do it:

  • Turn off your console if it is switched on.

  • Connect only the video plugs into the TV (either the lone yellow, the red-blue-green set, or S-video plug) or disconnect the red and white audio plugs.

  • On the back of the plug, connected to the console, there is a Toslink jack. Connect one end of the Toslink cable here and the other end to the digital audio input on your amplifier or TV.

  • Turn on your console. You can change your audio and digital output settings from System area. Choose the right digital audio settings for your system.
