A. Cox’s SpamBlocker is continually updated to better detect and delete spam. The latest version of Cox’s SpamBlocker provides the ability to delete suspected junk mail before it makes it into your mailbox, automatically divert unwanted emails to a spam folder in WebMail, or deliver spam to your Inbox flagged as --Spam-- in the subject line. If an unwanted email makes it through to your inbox, a new “Spam” button in WebMail makes it easy to report the email to Cox’s SpamBlocker Team. In addition, you can now customize your own spam filter by blocking or granting access to specific senders or domains.
Customers that already have Cox SpamBlocker do not need to upgrade – they automatically benefit from the ongoing enhancements made to the SpamBlocker technology. Customers who did not have SpamBlocker active, or chose specifically to flag spam prior to June 2006, will now find suspected junk mail in the Spam folder in WebMail. A. Cox’s SpamBlocker solution will significantly enhance your experience with Cox High Speed Internet by reducing spam for all of your Cox.net email accounts. It is compatible with McAfee SpamKiller and adds an extra layer of protection.
McAfee SpamKiller allows more options for the customer and their spam blocking needs. In addition, you can use McAfee SpamKiller to block spam on non-cox.net accounts. A. Cox’s SpamBlocker uses all of the tools available today, including rule-based methods, heuristics and black lists of known spammers to detect junk email. We can’t disclose all of the methods used by Cox SpamBlocker because we don’t want to educate Spammers on what methods they need to work around.
A. The new SpamBlocker reporting function makes it even easier to report spam. Simply select a message (or messages) from the inbox and then click the “Spam” button on the menu to forward the messages Cox’s SpamBlocker team review. You can also find the Spam button while you’re reading individual messages.
Messages can also be sent from your mail client to spamreport@cox.net, please be sure headers are attached. A. In order to upgrade the features for our customers, we were not able to retain the old WebMail service.
A. Password security is important and Cox has publicized guidelines on how to pick the most secure password. Traditionally in the industry, email passwords have been sent in the clear and, overall, webmail services on the Internet presently offer a combination of both secure and unsecure logins. Cox is working to implement uniformly secure logins for all of its web properties which are scheduled to be effective early next year.
