When I run the Windows Media Center Extender Setup program, and I have Windows Firewall off, I get an error message.

Another settings option for an Xbox connected to Windows Media Center.

This error comes up when you have Windows Firewall turned off on the computer.  When you run the Media Center Extender Setup, Windows Firewall should be up and has to be updated to allow communication between the Windows Media Center-based computer and the Xbox 360 console. If the Windows Firewall service is turned off then these updates cannot be updated.
Note:  The following steps would show you how to lower your security settings on your computer or turn it off.   Ensure that you take appropriate additional steps to safe guard your system from malware and spywares.

  1. Follow these steps to start Windows Firewall:
    • From your task pane, Click Start -> Run.
    • Type "services.msc".
    • In the list of services, double-click on Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).
    • On the General tab under Service status, click Start.
    • Click OK.
  2. Run the Windows Media Center Extender Setup again.
If you did not use Windows Firewall before and want to go back to the previous settings, do the following:

Please do this after you complete the Windows Media Center Extender setup.

  1. Click Start -> Run.
  2. Type "firewall.cpl", click OK.
  3. On the General tab, click Off (not recommended).
  4. click OK.

You are done..!!
