Picture Troubleshooting Guide for Playstation 3

This article gives you solutions for most of the display problems you might see on your Playstation 3

If you have trouble in the resolution of the screen or you have TV picture related problems, this guide is for you!  Just click on the trouble you are currently facing:

You can't see any picture on the TV screen:

  1. Ensure the input mode of the TV is matching with the connector in use for the Playstation 3.
  2. Try to change the AV cable, it might be faulty.   Ensure you use a Playstation 3 compatible cable.
  3. The screen might be blank if the video output settings does not match with the TV and your console, to fix this:
    1. Turn off the system.
    2. Disconnect all the cables.
    3. Reconnect only the AV cable from the console to the TV.
    4. Plug the console into the power socket.
    5. Touch and hold the console's power button for 5 seconds to turn the system back on.
  4. The video output settings will automatically get back to the standard resolution.

The picture on TV is distorted or cannot play DVD or Blu-ray Disc (BD):

  1. When playing a DVD (or Playstation format software) in SD resolution, only discs recorded in the NTSC standard will work.
  2. If you have connected your console to a VCR (or to any device before the TV), then the copy protection encoding on some DVD's and BD's might cause distortion.  Connect your TV directly to your console.
  3. If the region code on the console doesn't match with the DVD or BD, it cannot be played.
  4. Some DVDs and BD's are set with parental control restrictions.  Enter the password that was set in "Security Settings" to change the restriction or control level.
  5. The BD may be disc-locked, enter the password with which the disc was created.

The size of the video image does not match with the TV screen:

  1. Check the video output settings on your console.
  2. Check whether your console settings on the TV are correct.  Please check the instruction manual of your TV.
  3. The screen size will not change with some types of video content.

The color on the screen does not seem right:

  1. Your console's background color would automatically change.
