How do I restore Outlook Express shortcut on my desktop?

I want to restore Outlook Express icon on my desktop

To restore Outlook Express icon on your desktop, here's what you can do!

There are three different ways that you can restore your Outlook Express icon onto your desktop:

  1. Locating the file and creating a shortcut.
  2. Restoring Outlook Express files by running System File Checker.
  3. Repair/reinstall Internet Explorer.


1. Locating the file and creating a shortcut:

Simply follow the steps below to get back your Outlook Express shortcut.
  1. On your desktop, right click and select New -> Shortcut.

  2. Click Browse, navigate to C:\Program Files\Outlook Express.
  3. Check for file name "msimn.exe" (Microsoft Internet Email file) and select it.
  4. Click Next.

  5. Rename the file name to "Outlook Express" and click Finish.

2.  Restoring Outlook Express files by running System File Checker:

  1. From your task pane click Start -> Run.

  2. In the run window, key in "sfc /scannow" (Important:There is a blank space between sfc and /scannow).
  3. Click OK.

  4. Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.

  5. Restart the computer after the System File Checker is complete.

Repair/reinstall Internet Explorer:
  1. From your task pane, click Start -> Search -> For Files or Folders.

  2. Click on All Files and Folders.


  3. Click on More advanced options, check the Search hidden files and folders option.
  4. Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.

  5. In the All or Part of the File Name box, type "ie.inf".
  6. In the Look In drop-down menu, select the hard drive that contains the Windows OS folder. (It usually is on C: drive)
  7. Click the Search button.

  8. In the search results, check for the "ie.inf" file located in Windows\Inf folder.
  9. Right click the ie.inf file and click Install.

  10. Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.

You should now be able to access Outlook Express.

Important:  If you still have trouble accessing Outlook Express and get error messages then, reinstall Internet explorer.  That should take care of your problem.
