Vista has some really amazing features. So you need to make sure that the system is well equipped to receive this new OS.Read her to know the minimum hardware requirements for Running Windows Vista.

Day before yesterday my friend bought a new car. A real big car!!! I was surprised but the car looked too classy and huge. I asked him why! He said his parents will be staying with him from now on and so to accommodate so many people he needs a bigger car. Wow! I could not find any better way to explain to my son why our computer needs more space and more features to upgrade to Windows Vista.

As the new Microsoft Vista has got more and amazing features with lots of graphics, we need our system to be well equipped and compatible so that we can handle this new guest in our system. Let me discuss what are the minimum hardware requirements for running Widows Vista.

Microsoft Vista Home Basic: -

  •   800-megahertz (MHz) 32-bit (x86) processor or 800-MHz 64-bit (x64) processor
  •   512 megabytes (MB) of system memory
  •   DirectX 9-class graphics card
  •   32 MB of graphics memory
  •   20-gigabyte (GB) hard disk that has 15 GB of free hard disk space
  •   Internal or external DVD drive
  •   Internet access capability
  •   Audio output capability

Microsoft Vista Home Premium, Microsoft Vista Business, Microsoft Vista Enterprise and Microsoft Vista Ultimate

  •   1-gigahertz (GHz) 32-bit (x86) processor or 1-GHz 64-bit (x64) processor
  •   1 GB of system memory
  •   Windows Aero-capable graphics card
    • Window aero-capable graphics card is a graphics card that meets the following requirements:
      • Supports a Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) driver
      • Has a DirectX 9-class graphics processor unit (GPU) that supports Pixel Shader 2.0
      • Supports 32 bits per pixel
      • Passes the Windows Aero acceptance test in the Windows Driver Kit (WDK)
  •    128 MB of graphics memory
  •   40-GB hard disk that has 15 GB of free hard disk space (the 15GB of free space provides room for temporary file storage during the install or upgrade.)
  •   Internal or external DVD drive
  •   Internet access capability
  •   Audio output capability

So the above-mentioned are the minimum requirement for the respective version of Vista. Actual hardware requirements will vary, depending on system configuration and on the programs and the features that we install. If we install Windows Vista over a network, additional hard disk space may be required.
