I am able to receive emails but not able to send emails in Windows Mail while using Windows Vista

If you are able to send mails but are unable to receive any, it could be a n authentication problem that needs to be checked. This article explains the possibilities and what to do if you are not able to send emails in Windows Mail while using Windows Vista.

If you have realized that there is no problem receiving emails in your Windows Mail but you are not able to send emails, that means Windows Mail is having problems connecting to the outgoing email server in Windows Vista. The following reasons can result to this problem
First of all please go to this  http://www.zolved.com/synapse/view_content/24553 and check that all your email information is set right.

Once you verify this and find out that email information is entered properly, we need to change the authentication settings so that when sending mail, you sign in using your email user name and password. Check with your email provider to see if it requires authentication for sending email. Let me give you the steps how to use authentication when sending email. First of all please open your Windows Mail
  • Click the Tools menu, and click Accounts.

  • Under Mail, click your email account, and then click Properties.

  • Click the Servers tab, and then, under Outgoing Mail Server, select the My server requires authentication check box and then click on Settings

  • If the account information that you use to send email is not the same information that you use to receive messages, click Log on using, and then enter the user name and password that you use to send email.

In some situations when you're using a different ISP (like when using a wireless connection in a hotel), you may be able to receive but not send email. If your ISP doesn't allow this, you'll need to find out the name of the outgoing mail server for the ISP you're currently using, and then change the settings following the above same steps in Windows Mail to use it
