iTunes won't let me update or restore my iPod software.
iTunes throws this popup message: iTunes could not contact the iPod software update server because you are not connected to the Internet.
You need to connect to the internet and/or confirm that you internet connection is active (open a broswer, go to zolved.com or google.com).
If you've checked and iTunes still gives this message, make sure your computer is set to "automatically detect settings." From the Start button, open Control Panel. Click Network and Internet Connections then Internet Options (or just Internet Options). Select the Connections tab and click the LAN Settings button. Select the Automatically detect settings checkbox. Click the OKs, now restart iTunes and connect your iPod. It should be able to connect to the software update server now.

' the ipod software update server could not be contacted. make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later.'
Its getting really frustrating now!!
Any more help would be appreciated =) - Posted by: oola.maxwell_356 at 06 Aug 01:22 permalink

1. You migrate from an old laptop to a new laptop (for me from Toshiba Satellite to Dell Latitude D620), and,
2. You deauthorize iTunes on your old laptop and authorize iTunes on your new laptop, and,
3. You try to sync your iPod with your new, authorized iTunes,
THEN
1. You will receive the message "The iTunes update server could not be contacted....", and,
2. Your iPod won't sync with the new, authorized iTunes.
TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM:
1. In iTunes, click on: DEVICES > {your name}'S IPOD,
2. Then, click on tab MUSIC (located below icon image of an apple),
3. Then, click SYNC MUSIC,
4. Click "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO SYNC MUSIC?....", after being asked,
5. Then, return to tabs MOVIES, TV SHOWS, PODCASTS, etc., and
6. Repeat Step 2 through Step 4.
Please note that the original error message "The iTunes update server could not be contacted....", is a red herring. The message has nothing to do with your sync-ing problem. Hope this helps. - Posted by: johnylokes_3399 at 31 Jan 13:32 permalinkI HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER TO ALL THIS MESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITUNES CONNECTS TO INTERNET EXPLORER.
