Cannot move after Language Select screen on Wii configuration

Is your Wii freezing up on you? This guide is for you!

If your screen is frozen on the Language select screen, it could be a problem related to the Sensor Bar.  Here's what you do:

  1. Make sure that your Sensor Bar is connected to the console properly and placed in the center of the TV screen.  If you want to know how to connect your Sensor bar, click here
  2. Ensure that your Wii Remote is synced with your console and the remote is responding.  If you have no clue to how sync your remote to your console, click here for instructions.
  3. Ensure that you operate your remote in between the distance of 3 ft to 10ft in front of the TV.  Also ensure that there is no direct bright light in between.

If you still have no luck, then see below:

Your Wii Sensor Bar has five infrared lights on both the sides of the bar.   This actually determines the position of your Wii Remote.  If these light don't work, then your remote would not show up the cursor on the screen.

You need to determine whether these lights are working or not.  To do this:

  1. You will need a digital camera or cell phone camera with an LCD display.
  2. Connect the Sensor Bar to the console and power on the console.
  3. Look at the Sensor Bar through your camera LCD.  If  all the five infrared lights can be seen on both sides of the Sensor Bar, then it means its working.  Position your camera in such a way that you should see the lights on the LCD.
  4. If you see all the lights but still don't see any response on your screen or if you don't see the lights, then you need to get in touch with Wii customer service for further assistance.
