Can I Setup Broadband Connection on Vista?

To setup a broadband connection in Vista, check on the modem connection and a couple of other points, then follow the steps as mentioned in this article.

Before setting up an Internet connection, ensure:

  • You have your modem properly installed and connected, either via an Ethernet network card or USB, to your computer.
  • There are no loose connections.
  • You have the Username and Password from your ISP before you start.

Here's how you setup your connection:

  1. Click Start -> Control Panel.

  2. Click on Network and Internet icon.

  3. Click on Network and Sharing Center icon.

  4. Click on Setup a connection or network on the left task pane.

  5. A new window will popup asking you to choose the connection option.  Click Connect to the Internet and click Next.

  6. Now click on Broadband (PPPoE) option.

  7. Do the following on this screen:
    • Enter the User name and Password your ISP gave you.
    • Type in a name for Connection name.  This name is to identify your internet connection.  (If you have multiple Internet connections, this is useful).
    • If you check the box which says "Allow other people to use this connection", Vista will allow all the users on the computer to access this connection.
  8. Click Connect.

  9. If you see the following window then you have successfully established a connection.

  10. If you have any issues then you should recheck:
    • User name and password.
    • Internet connection settings with your ISP.

I have a problem with that set up. My roommate has an XP and I was able to set up the PPPoe connection as usual, but my vista sais it cannot create the connection. Well in vista when i create the connection I set up in properties the service name, but here I can't even create the connection in order to modify this property and eventually connect later. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Having the same problem while i wait for isp provided modem to arrive; wont help with set up cause my current modem not sold by them dicks! the connection wizard in vista helps you connect to a "DSL" aka digital service provider not an ÄDSL"modem there is a difference "DSL" wall sockets look simular to a tv antena jack in the wall and you plug one end into wall one into your computer, i think (90%) adsl connection cords and sockets have your usal looking phone line connection plus an ethernet or usb cords/sockets running out of the broadband modem. Try searching for modem drivers online if you know your modem model number and then see if you can configure/get online after that but not using the pus ass windows wizard, I know this aint all that much help but hope its a lil useful to you. chow

My ISP does not require a username and password. What should I do in this case?
On XP there used to be an option for "Connect using a broadband connection that is always on" which did not require a username and passowrd.
