Sure! You can "customize" or change the settings of the start menu shut down button in Windows Vista.

  2. Click on Hardware and Sound.

  3. Click on Change when the computer sleeps under Power Options.

  4. Now click on Change Advanced Power Settings.

  5. Now double click on Power Buttons and Lid and then double click on Start menu power button.

  6. Click on Setting and you can choose the function you want to perform like sleep, hibernate or shut down and click OK.

So next time you log in, you can click on the power button and it will perform the function you have selected.
