Ping test

Do a ping test to ensure you are connected to the internet.  Here's how you do it:
  1. From your desktop, click Start -> Run and type "command" and press enter.

  2. The command prompt would appear.

  3. Type "ping xxx.xxx.xxx.x" and press enter. ("x" is the external IP address of any website) or type "ping www.example.com" and press enter. (this could be any website address)
  4. If you get a reply saying "Reply from xxx.xxx.xxx.x: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128" it means your internet works.

    • If you get a reply saying "Request timed out" as shown below, you need to:

      • Switch off your modem and router. Plug them back in. Wait for a couple of minutes.
      • Shutdown and Restart your computer.
      • Check your DNS entries again.
      • Try using the same DNS IP address that your ISP is using.

When I typed "command" in the Run dialog box on my Windows XP PC, Windows or the OS could not recognize it. After googling around I found that to display the command prompt dialog box, I had to type in "CMD" (without quotation marks) in the Run dialog box. Apart from that the ping command worked very well to check my Internet connectivity. Thanks by SingoStar
