Do a ping test to ensure you are connected to the internet. Here's how you do it:
- From your desktop, click Start -> Run and type "command" and press enter.

- The command prompt would appear.

- Type "ping xxx.xxx.xxx.x" and press enter. ("x" is the external IP address of any website) or type "ping www.example.com" and press enter. (this could be any website address)
- If you get a reply saying "Reply from xxx.xxx.xxx.x: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128" it means your internet works.
- If you get a reply saying "Request timed out" as shown below, you need to:
- Switch off your modem and router. Plug them back in. Wait for a couple of minutes.
- Shutdown and Restart your computer.
- Check your DNS entries again.
- Try using the same DNS IP address that your ISP is using.

- Posted by: katosm2u_4831 at 19 Mar 00:24 permalinkWhen I typed "command" in the Run dialog box on my Windows XP PC, Windows or the OS could not recognize it. After googling around I found that to display the command prompt dialog box, I had to type in "CMD" (without quotation marks) in the Run dialog box. Apart from that the ping command worked very well to check my Internet connectivity. Thanks by SingoStar
