Before you go forward, try steps on how to troubleshoot Apple TV not appearing in iTunes.
Follow the steps below if you are connected with the help of Network switch/router:
- Examine the link LED on the Modem and router/switch. If the LED is not active then there should be some problem with the ethernet port or cable. Change the port/cable and recheck once again.
- Check all the software and hardware firewall settings on your computer and your switch/router. Ensure that it is configured in such a way that it doesn't block the ports Apple TV uses. See "TCP and UDP ports and protocols used by Apple TV" that will help you in better understanding.
- Try connecting your Apple TV to another computer with iTunes (if you have one). This will help eliminating any problems you have with the first computer. Try getting connected to the iTunes shared library. Click on the following links to help you through it:
Follow the steps below if you are directly connected to your PC's Ethernet port:
- Check all the software and hardware firewall settings on your computer and your switch/router. Ensure that it is configured in such a way that it doesn't block the ports Apple TV uses. See "TCP and UDP ports and protocols used by Apple TV" that will help you in better understanding.
- Check whether your Ethernet Port is enabled or not. Just open iTunes and check whether you can access iTunes Store.
- If you have an old machine, you probably need to use a crossover cable as your PC might not be a Gigabit Ethernet compatible.
- Try connecting your computer and Apple TV via router or a network switch.

In the Control Panel, go to Network Connections(XP), right click on the network connection you are using (LAN or Wireless) and select properties. Under the "this connection uses the following items" box you will see the "Check Point SecuRemote" adapter. Uncheck this selection. Close out of all the windows and you will then be able to connect itunes to the apple tv and your airport util to the airport. Of course, don't forget to re-enable the checkpoint adapter before using the VPN software again! Hope this helps out somewhere, it confused me for a while. (also - no need to stop the VPN client prior to doing this)
