Already having trouble using Apple TV? If so, then it's pretty simple to fix your problem. If you can't view your Apple TV in iTunes source list, then click here for that solution.
Wait...before you go ahead, ensure...
- The power cords of your TV and apple TV and other devices are plugged in properly.
- Your video and audio cables are plugged in firmly and avoid any loose connections.
- Your TV is on the correct input mode and turned on.
- Your Internet connection is up and working.
- Your Apple TV is connected to the network. To check this, on the Apple TV:
- Go to Settings, select Network.
- Check whether it has got an IP address.
Note: If you still face any problems, reset all the devices (Apple TV, network switch/router, modem etc.,) by switching them off and unplugging them. Wait for sometime and plug them back in and turn them on.

If there is a vague or no display on your TV:
- When you connect your Apple TV to a power outlet, ensure the LED is turned on. If it is not, check your power outlet or try to connect it to a different power outlet source.
- Ensure your video and audio cables are plugged in firmly and avoid any loose connections.
- Ensure your TV is on the correct input mode and it matches the input mode on your Apple TV. Check the TV manual for more information on it.
- If you have problems when connected through HDMI, try replugging. If it still doesn't work, change it to component mode. Your TV manual will have info on it.
If still having problems, you may need to select a video mode on your Apple TV that your TV supports. Here's how you select a video mode:
- Press and hold Menu and Menu up/scroll (+) buttons on the Apple remote for 6 seconds.
- You should see a cycle of different screens.
- When you clearly can see apple logo on your screen, select OK and press Play key on the remote.

Apple TV is not responding but you can see the picture on TV:
- Apple TV status light should flash when you press any button on your remote. If it doesn't check whether your remote is working or not.
- Turn off your Apple TV and your TV and plug it back in after few seconds.
- Ensure your TV is working properly. If you have any clarifications, refer your TV manual.
- Ensure you have paired your Apple Remote with your Apple TV correctly. Click here to learn more about pairing your Apple remote.

No sound Output:
- If you have connected your Apple TV to an receiver, ensure that it is turned on and the input matches with the audio cables and Apple TV.
- Turn up your TV volume. Ensure that it is not muted.
- Ensure that you use the right audio cable to connect your Apple TV and your TV. Avoid loose connections. Check your manual if you need any clarifications.
- If you are using HDMI port to connect your Apple TV, check whether it supports audio through HDMI port, because some older TV's only support video through HDMI. If your TV supports HDMI audio, then try to disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable.
- For some TV's you need to set it up to receive audio from HDMI. Check your TV manual for instructions.
- Try the other audio outputs on Apple TV.
- Still having problems, try using another HDMI cable.

- If you have misplaced the Apple remote, you can set your Apple TV work with other remote by pressing and holding Menu and Previous/Rewind (<<) button for 6 seconds.
- Make sure the remote receiver on the front of the Apple TV isn't blocked.

The ATV is connected to the router via a Linksys router. No firewall is installed.
The diagnosis program on the ATV finds the network and reports that all is well.
In fact, Apple had me ethernet-hard-wire the ATV strait to the router and iTunes still didn't find the ATV. No firewall is installed.
I believe this because we are able to order movies using iTunes money we redeemed on line. From the ATV side, all seems well except no access to iTunes from the ATV menu.
iTunes is version 8.1 which shows as the latest. The ATV was just updated also to make sure.
iTunes doesn't see the ATV at all. In devices, the check box for "look for Apple TV" is checked but there is nothing in the window to indicate that the ATV is found. In fact, the "Devices" menu isn't even there. (I don't have any other devices other than the ATV....wonder if I should try to hook up speakers...these are considered devices; maybe this will help find the problem).
Any other suggestions? Thanks.
