Windows Vista : Error message "A disk read error has occured. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL"
You are trying to install an additional operating system that is running Windows........you encounter "A disk read error has occurred. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart." Error message in the process. Follow the steps in this article. It explains just what to do.
This happens if you try to install a version of Windows that is earlier than Windows Vista.
The Setup process in the earlier version of Windows tries to overwrite the boot sector.
To solve this issue:
Note: Install each operating system according to the standard installation procedure and each version should be in its own operation. Make sure the installation is in the order as below.

To solve this issue:
- First install the earlier version of windows on the primary boot partition.
- Then install Windows Vista on a new partition.
Note: Install each operating system according to the standard installation procedure and each version should be in its own operation. Make sure the installation is in the order as below.
- Windows 2000
- Windows XP
- Windows server 2003
- Windows vista
