Windows Vista : Error message " You must first uninstall Sonic DLA"

You see the error message “You must first uninstall Sonic DLA” when you are trying to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows Vista. It can appear inspite of Sonic DLA not installed. Follow the advice given in this article.

This can also happen when you double click the Add or Remove programs item in Control Panel, and Sonic DLA still does not appear.

Note: Sonic DLA has been renamed IBM DLA, and is incompatible with Windows Vista.

To troubleshoot the problem, IBM DLA needs to be un-installed.

Here’s how:
  • Click Start,Click Control Panel
  • Double click Add or Remove programs in Control panel.
  • Under Currently installed programs list, click IBM DLA

  • Click Remove.
