"Cannot Play Back the Video Stream" on Internet Explorer.

If you are experiencing any problem with audio or video while playing movie on computer, then refer to this article for more information.

While attempting to play a movie file with ActiveMovie or Media Player, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • You cannot hear the audio.
  • You cannot see the video.

Also, you may receive either of the following error messages:

  • Cannot play back the video stream: no suitable decompressor could be found.

  • Unable to download an appropriate decompressor.

This may happen if:

  • The audio stream is not supported.

  • Audio or video codecs are not supported by ActiveMovie or Media Player. Like, you are trying to open a file name with extension .mov file, which may have been originally created for a Apple Macintosh-based computer.

  • Video compression is not installed.

Note: Do not try to view unsupported audio or video formats unless you obtain a viewing utility file which supports your audio or video codecs.

You need to install Video Compression on your computer to avoid the limited video functionality.

Select your operating systems:

Windows 98/95-Based Computer:

  • Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.

  • Click Add/Remove Programs.

  • On the Windows Setup tab, click Multimedia. Click Details.

  • Click to select the Video Compression check box, click OK. Click OK again.

Windows NT-Based Computer:

  • You need to obtain and install a third-party viewer.
