Setting Up Your E-Mail Account using Outlook Express

To use Evolution to read your e-mail you need to find out the following settings for connecting to your e-mail server.

Note: You can find these details from your ISP or system administrator.

Steps to Open Evolution Setup Assistant:

  • Go to Applications  > Internet and click on  Evolution Mail on the Menu bar.
       
  • Evolution Setup Assistant is displayed with a welcome note. Click on Forward button to setup your email.


  • Enter your full name and email address. Now click on Forward button.


  • In Receiving Email page, select the Server Type as POP to display configuration settings.


  • Enter your Server, username and password. Click on Forward button.
        Note: Forward button is enabled only when Server Name is given.


            
            
  • In Receiving Options page, select the check boxes as per your choice and click on Forward button.

  • Give your outgoing mail server type (typically SMTP) and server name. Click on Forward.

  • In Account Management screen, click on Forward.
            
  • Now in Timezone window, select the time zone and click on Forward.
            
  • This will display the Done screen. Click on Apply button.

            
  • Your E-Mail is configured successfully you can now send and receive mails.

      

Inside the e-mail component you can see the e-mail folders in the left panel and the list of messages in the top pane.

When you click on a message, it is displayed in the bottom pane where you can read it.

With your new account set up you will first want to go and grab the e-mail from your mail server. Click Send/Receive, and the mail is retrieved from your server and any unsent mail is sent.

On the left sidebar you can see a number of buttons to access the mail, contacts, calendars, memos, and tasks components in Evolution. When you click each button the interface adjusts to show you the relevant information about that component.
